Mochi Lock

A glowing pin races around a candy dial - tap the split second it lines up with a notch to pop the pins one by one and spring the smiling mochi padlock open.

About Mochi Lock

Mochi Lock is a one-tap timing game in the 'pop the lock' family. A bright glowing pin sweeps around a circular dial at a steady pace, and a candy notch waits somewhere on the ring. The whole game is a single beat of timing: tap at the exact moment the pin lines up with the notch and it pops in with a satisfying click. Miss the window - tap when the pin is over nothing - and the lock jams.

Every pop flips the script. The instant a notch clicks home the dial reverses direction and speeds up a touch, then a fresh notch drops further around the ring, so you are always re-reading the sweep. Pop enough pins in a row and the mochi padlock in the middle grins and springs its shackle open - that clears the level.

The 20 hand-tuned levels are grouped into five candy worlds - Berry, Citrus, Mint, Ocean, and Galaxy - and each world layers in a new twist. Berry teaches the click with a slow, generous window. Citrus tightens the window and quickens the sweep. Mint puts two live notches on the dial at once, so you choose which to grab. Ocean adds red jam notches - traps you must let the pin glide past, never tapping on them. Galaxy combines everything into a fast, tight finale.

Clear all 20 levels and Endless mode opens up, dealing fresh locks forever with every mechanic switched on from the very first one - double notches, jam traps, fast sweeps - and a difficulty that keeps ramping past the curated finale, so the locks never run out. There is no points score and no high-score chase: cracking a lock always earns the full three stars.

How to play Mochi Lock

  1. Watch the glowing pin sweep around the candy dial at a steady speed.
  2. Tap anywhere on the screen (or press Space) the instant the pin lines up with a bright notch on the ring.
  3. A clean tap pops the pin in: the dial reverses, speeds up a little, and a new notch appears further around.
  4. Keep popping pins until the meter at the top fills - the mochi padlock springs open and the level is cleared.
  5. From Ocean on, leave the red jam notches alone: tapping when the pin is over a red trap jams the lock and ends the level.
  6. After level 20, pick Endless to keep cracking freshly dealt locks for as long as you like.

Tips & strategy

  • Tap a hair EARLY rather than late - your finger and the screen both add a little lag, so aiming for the leading edge of the notch lands more pops.
  • After every pop the dial reverses, so glance at where the next notch dropped before the pin gets there.
  • When two notches are live, commit to the one the pin will reach first instead of dithering between them.
  • Red jam notches never need a tap - just let the pin glide straight through them and wait for a real notch.
  • The sweep gets a touch faster with each pop in a level, so the last pin is always the quickest - stay relaxed and trust the rhythm.
  • There is no penalty for cracking a lock slowly; you only fail by tapping at the wrong moment, so wait for a clean line-up.

The Half-Second Where The Pin Lines Up

What makes Mochi Lock work is how much it crams into one frame of contact. A glowing white bead races the groove, a gem sits glowing inside a notch on the ring, and everything narrows to the instant the two overlap. The hit window is an actual arc, not a point, so early worlds feel forgiving without feeling free. The payoff is stacked deliberately: a short shake, a warm flash, an expanding ring blooming from the gem, and a pitch that climbs one step up a musical scale per pop. String enough together and the pops play like a little ascending melody you are performing rather than triggering.

The real twist is that every pop flips the sweep direction and nudges the speed up, and the speed-up compounds across the whole level. So the rhythm refuses to become a metronome you can zone out to. You commit, the dial reverses, a fresh gem drops further around the ring with a bit of reaction runway, and you re-read the board cold. Because the ramp caps at sixty percent over the starting speed, the final pin is always the twitchiest, which hands every lock a built-in crescendo. A brief grace window at the very open forgives one panic tap before the bead has even settled.

The five worlds teach one idea apiece behind their own palettes and drifting starfields. Berry hands you a wide, slow window to find the click. Citrus quickens the sweep and pinches the arc. Mint lights two gems at once, so you stop dithering and grab whichever the bead reaches first. Ocean adds red notches marked with a white X: harmless to pass, but a tap on one jams the lock, which makes restraint the actual skill. Galaxy fuses all of it into the fastest, tightest set, and only clearing it unlocks Endless with every mechanic live from lock one.

There is no points chase and no clock pressure, which suits short repeat sessions and impatient young players. You can simply wait for a clean line-up, since the only failure is a mistimed tap, never a slow one. The board stays readable too: a key-icon pill counts pins popped against the goal, and a faint lit arc eats around the ring as you progress, so you always know how close the shackle is. Endless keeps climbing well past the finale, piling on pins, speed, and up to five jam traps, so even a sharp player eventually finds the wall.

Frequently asked questions

How do I win a level in Mochi Lock?

Pop the required number of pins by tapping the instant the sweeping pin lines up with a bright notch. The meter at the top of the screen fills with each pop; when it's full the mochi padlock springs open and the level is cleared.

What happens if I tap at the wrong time?

If you tap when the pin is over nothing, or over a red jam notch, the lock jams and the level ends - you just retry it from the start. There's no other way to lose: taking your time between pops is totally fine.

What are the red notches?

Those are jam traps, introduced in the Ocean world. The pin passing over a red notch is harmless - the danger is only if you TAP while it's there. Let the pin glide through them and wait for a real (bright) notch.

Why does the dial keep changing direction and speeding up?

That's the core of the game. Every successful pop reverses the sweep and bumps the speed up a little, so you're constantly re-reading the dial. The last pin in a level is always the fastest.

How many levels are there, and what is Endless mode?

There are 20 hand-tuned levels split across five candy worlds. Clear all 20 and Endless mode unlocks, dealing fresh locks forever with every mechanic active from the first one and a difficulty that keeps climbing past the final curated level.

Does Mochi Lock save my progress?

It remembers which levels you've unlocked and reopens at your furthest one, kept privately in your own browser on this device. A different device or browser starts a new save. Individual locks aren't saved mid-run - each level starts fresh.
