Mochi Launch

Pull back and release to fling a squishy mochi across a long pastel stage where it bounces, flops and rolls, then spend coins on upgrades to launch even further.

About Mochi Launch

Mochi Launch is a free fling-for-distance game built on real soft-body physics. A round, jiggly mochi sits on a little launcher at the edge of a long scrolling stage. You drag back to set your angle and power - just like pulling a slingshot - and release to send it sailing in a high arc. From there it is all about the bounce: the mochi squashes flat when it hits the ground, springs back up, clips trampolines and boost pads, and rolls out the last few metres until it finally flops to a stop. Every run is a single satisfying throw, and the whole game is about beating your own distance record.

What makes the throw feel so good is that the mochi is a genuine soft body, not a rigid ball. It is a ring of connected points held in shape by internal pressure, so it wobbles in flight, pancakes on impact, and oozes back into a round blob - the same squishy deformation as a real piece of dough. When it slaps the ground it flattens with a springy boing; when it catches a trampoline it stretches tall on the way up; when it rolls to a halt it gives one last little jiggle. You are not watching a canned animation, you are watching physics react to exactly how hard and where you flung it.

Between throws the game turns into a cosy little upgrade loop. Distance earns coins, and coins buy permanent upgrades: more Launch Power for a longer initial arc, springier Bounce so each hop carries you further, slicker Slip so you roll instead of grinding to a stop, lighter Float for extra hang time, and a one-tap Boost you can fire in mid-air for a burst of forward speed. Each upgrade has several levels and a rising price, so a short throw still moves you forward, and you slowly snowball from a few metres to a launch that screams clear across the whole stage. Your coins, upgrades and best distance are all saved in your own browser.

Like every Anime Mochi game it is free, needs no download or account, and plays instantly on a phone, tablet, or computer. It is mobile-first - drag with a thumb and let go - but works just as well with a mouse, and there is a full keyboard control scheme with an auto-bouncing power meter for desktop play. There is no fail state and nothing to lose: every fling, long or short, pays out coins and flows straight into the next launch, so it is the kind of game you can dip into for one throw or chase a record for an hour.

How to play Mochi Launch

  1. On the start screen, tap once to dismiss the how-to and take control of the launcher.
  2. Press and drag backward (down and away from the stage) - the further you pull, the more power, and the drag direction sets the launch angle.
  3. Watch the dotted trajectory arc and the power/angle indicator to line up the throw you want.
  4. Release to fling the mochi; it flies in an arc, then bounces, flops and rolls across the stage.
  5. Tap once while it is still in the air to fire your one-shot mid-air Boost (once you have bought the Boost upgrade) for an extra forward kick.
  6. When the mochi settles, read your distance, collect the coins you earned, and spend them on the upgrade card.
  7. Buy upgrades - Power, Bounce, Slip, Float, Boost - then hit Launch again and try to beat your best distance.

Tips & strategy

  • A launch angle around 40-45 degrees gives the longest initial arc; flatter throws land sooner but can set up better ground rolls once you have Slip.
  • Bounce is the upgrade that compounds the most - a springier mochi turns each landing into another hop, so a few levels of it dramatically extends a throw.
  • Slip lowers ground friction, so it pays off most once you are already bouncing far; buy it after Power and Bounce to keep your speed through the final roll.
  • Float lowers gravity and adds hang time, letting a high arc glide much further before the first bounce - great when paired with extra Power.
  • Save your mid-air Boost for the top of a bounce or the moment you start to slow down; firing it while you still have forward speed adds the most distance.
  • Aim to clip trampolines and mushrooms - they fling you up for a fresh bounce - and ride the boost pads and fans, which shove you forward along the ground.
  • Even a weak throw earns coins, so when you are short on cash just keep flinging; small steady upgrades snowball into a record-breaking launch.
  • Watch the metre markers along the ground to learn how far each setup carries you, then tweak your angle a little at a time.

Game features

  • Genuine soft-body mochi: a pressurised, deformable blob that squashes on impact, stretches off trampolines, and jiggles back into shape.
  • Slingshot-style aiming - drag back for angle and power with a live dotted trajectory arc and a power/angle indicator.
  • A long parallax stage with rolling hills, clouds, distance markers, and scattered trampolines, mushrooms, boost pads, fans and bumpers.
  • A satisfying chain of bounces, flops and rolls, with dust puffs, speed lines, screen-shake and pitched boing sounds on every impact.
  • An idle-style upgrade loop: earn coins by distance and buy Launch Power, Bounce, Slip, Float and a one-shot mid-air Boost, each with several levels.
  • A one-shot mid-air Boost you fire with a tap for a clutch burst of forward distance.
  • Full mobile, mouse and keyboard support, including an auto-bouncing power meter for one-key launches on desktop.
  • Coins, upgrade levels and best distance saved locally, with smooth PixiJS WebGL rendering, looping background music and a calm pastel look - free, no download or account.

A Dough Ball That Won't Sit Still

What sells Mochi Launch is the half-second after release, when control leaves your hands and the physics takes over. The mochi is no painted ball but a thirteen-point pressurised ring held in shape by springs and an internal area constraint, the same squishy model as Mochi Squish. So it wobbles in flight, pancakes flat on the first slap of ground, oozes back into a round lump, then needs a moment of stillness before the throw counts as done. Watching it pinball off a trampoline, skip a rise, and trundle to a halt well past where you braced for is the payoff, and every fling is a single committed throw.

The clever part is how the props refuse to let you stall. The course is seeded from one fixed number, so the same trampolines, mushrooms, push pads, fans and pink bumpers sit in the same spots every run, and you start reading it like a pinball table. Each prop also imparts a guaranteed forward kick and disarms until you have passed it, so the mochi can never trap itself ponging in one spot. The props even announce themselves, a BOING off a mushroom, a WHOOSH off a fan, a PERFECT off a bumper, so a run reads as a little spoken chain of lucky contacts you only half engineered.

Between throws sits a quietly smart economy most launchers get wrong. The five upgrades, Power, Bounce, Slip, Float and the one-shot Boost, all cost coins, but their price is pegged to your best distance rather than a fixed ladder. As your throws grow, so do both your coin haul and the next price, in lock-step, so a run reliably funds one or two purchases the whole way up rather than letting you splurge early then stall. Bounce compounds hardest, raising how much energy each landing keeps; Slip only earns its keep once you are already skipping far; Float trades gravity for the hang time a high arc wants.

It fits the in-between mood, a calm pastel run of rolling sine-wave hills, drifting parallax clouds and a metre ruler ticking off posts every twenty-five, sweetened with synth boings, dust puffs and a flick of screen-shake so impacts register. There is no way to lose and nothing to manage under pressure; even a feeble throw pays out and rolls straight into the next aim. The honest catch is the early flatness, since the first dozen launches feel alike until upgrades start stitching bounces into chains, and that turn, where a record lurches forward in one go, is the moment the loop finally clicks.

Frequently asked questions

How do I launch the mochi in Mochi Launch?

Press and drag backward - down and away from the stage - then release. The length of your drag sets the power and the direction sets the launch angle, exactly like pulling back a slingshot. A dotted arc previews the flight path so you can line up the throw before you let go. On a keyboard you tap Space to lock an auto-bouncing power meter and use the arrow keys to aim.

What are the coins and upgrades for?

Every throw earns coins based on how far the mochi travels. Between launches you spend those coins on permanent upgrades - Launch Power, Bounce, Slip, Float and a mid-air Boost - that each have several levels and a rising cost. Upgrading lets each fling carry further than the last, turning the game into a satisfying distance-pushing loop.

What does each upgrade do?

Power increases your initial launch speed for a longer arc. Bounce makes the mochi springier so each landing hops further. Slip lowers ground friction so it rolls instead of stopping. Float lowers gravity for more hang time. Boost gives you a one-shot mid-air forward burst you trigger with a tap, and higher levels make that burst stronger.

Is there a way to lose or run out of tries?

No. There is no fail state - every fling, long or short, pays out coins and flows straight into the next launch. You can throw as many times as you like, and the only thing you are chasing is your own best distance.

Is Mochi Launch free, and is my progress saved?

It is completely free with no download or account. Your coins, upgrade levels and best distance are stored privately in your own browser, so your progress is waiting for you next time you play on the same device.

Can I play Mochi Launch on my phone?

Yes. It is built mobile-first and plays instantly in any modern phone or tablet browser - just drag back with your thumb and let go to fling. It works the same on a desktop with a mouse, and there is a full keyboard control scheme too.
